Illegal Downloading On The Wane

April 19th, 2006

Dude! You gotta hear this new tune!

According to this eMarketer article, illegal downloading of music is down significantly over the past two years.

Interestingly, the reasons may have little to do with the legal ramifications: getting in trouble with the law is only the third concern cited by kids and teens — 49 percent of them, down from 50 percent two years ago. Of greater concern? Accidentally downloading a virus (63 percent) and accidentally downloading spyware (52 percent), issues that have both increased in significance over two years ago (from 60 and 43 percent of kids respectively).

And let’s hear it for parental responsibility: “getting in trouble with my parents” saw the biggest rise in concern among kids, from 26 to 40 percent.
