More email is on its way! Flee! Flee!

DMNews reports on a recent survey of 500 direct marketers, 85 percent of whom say they’re going to be increasing their online direct marketing spending in 2007 — with 81 percent planning to increase their spending in email marketing.

    This is actually quite nice! The smart way to market is to find the folks that like you, and encourage them to spread the word with a solid, attractive something that they’d like to share. Not a reward, but a product, service, brand, feeling, or something that makes them glad to know you.

    Spending more on email and direct (online) marketing is key to better marketing overall. Yeah, it will mean more spam by accident, but only if done poorly. Think Seth Godin’s “permission marketing” instead of “spam.”
