TBS will be broadcasting 24 hours of A Christmas Story once again this year. As you may or may not know, this greatest of all Christmas movies is narrated by and based on the short stories of Jean Shepherd, and represents only the tiniest fraction of Shep’s talent and life’s work. Among the many, many other things Shepherd produced was a PBS television series, “Jean Shepherd’s America.” Here’s a clip from that series. Pop a cold one and enjoy.

In the world of social media advertising — or maybe that should be advertising by social media — one of the metrics of success is how many times your video is shared.

Mashable, via Unruly, details the 20 most-shared ads for November. The commercial embedded above is one of them, and definitely makes my list of the top 10 best beer commercials ever.

Galleycat reports that today is Take Your Child To A Bookstore Day. Which is not a bad idea … assuming you can find a bookstore that actually sells books anymore, as this week’s New Yorker cover does a fine job of illustrating.

On this day in 2004, Ken Jennings’ Jeopardy! winning streak finally came to an end with, in my humble opinion, a pretty easy Final Jeopardy! question. Don’t feel bad, though: He came away with $2,520,700. Take a look.

The cynic in me would suggest that American Express started the whole notion of Small Business Saturday as a way to ingratiate themselves to small businesses who, by and large, don’t accept the American Express card.

On the other hand, it’s a great response to the shameful lunacy perpetrated on Black Friday. Something tells me my local retailer isn’t going to be hosting a disgusting scene like this.
